«FATHER'S GARDEN – The Decline of the Occident» (project, working title) |
||||
The picture I have of my parents originated from my boyhood. And until today I have never tried to put this to the test. "Father's garden" is the attempt to revise my personal history. It is not the portrait of my parents, but a densely woven poetic film about feelings representative of a whole epoch, the end of which was rung in long ago. |

DVD now available! DIEGO COSTA, Slant Magazine / Film Revue / DECEMBER 21, 2010: "...Economical and violent like a psychoanalyst's words in a good session..." Ron Wilkinson Dec 23, 2010 www.monstersandcritics.com: "...If you want “Harry Potter,” go see “Harry Potter.” If you want to see something that is capable of opening up the multitude of sensory channels that you have and do not use, see this film. If you do not understand it now, to paraphrase Peggy Guggenheim, try again in twenty years. The movie is a death poem... It does not make any difference whether the story is true or not. If it is a purely fictional narrative on one person’s view of life or death that would be good enough; quite an accomplishment, actually... Although some will compare the film to Andy Warhol’s cinematographic essay of his friend sleeping, it is more like the recent film festival feature “Robinson in Ruins.” “Robinson” is also a spoken essay (narrated by Vanessa Redgrave) delivered in the context of photographic images... The story is one of man’s place in civilization, plumbing concepts of control and security. Liechti’s film exhibits a man who has complete control but, in exercising it, gives up life." myfilmblog.com, 15, December 2010: "...Winner of the European Film Academy Documentary 2009 award "for its skillful exploration of minimalistic means to create an extraordinary visual story between life and death." A profound inquiry into the art of representation, Peter Liechti's The Sound of Insects probes the ever-elusive and mystifying line between life and death..." kino-zeit.de: "... (Joachim Kurz) "...a stunning rapprochement of a fictional text, which itself is based upon a true event. A cinematic manifesto for life, challenged by the main character's radical renunciation of life itself."
